Cases involving children commenced by a Local Authority or another official body like the NSPC are Public Law proceedings under the Children Act 1989 and usually referred to as care proceedings.

In proceedings under the Children Actthe welfare of the child is the guiding principle.  Any decisions taken by the Court are based on what the Court considers to be in the child or children’s best interests.
