“The Union of 1707 and the UK Legal Advice

Legal advice given to the UK government and prepared by Professor Crawford and Alan Boyle [and is available here] has been published and it has come with the not unexpected media frenzy that has characterised the independence debate thus far as politicians and their respective media relations offices engage in yet another morning of telling each other “I told you so”.

The legal advice is, of course, far more nuanced than the press give it credit for and far more balanced than either of the political campaigns or their supporters would wish to admit.  It doesn’t contain the “warnings” that the Scottish Herald claim it does nor does it back up the view of either campaign entirely.  To characterise legal advice of this kind in such a way is not appropriate.
